When transporting ocean containers across the road, a chassis is a specific trailer or undercarriage.
For a package moving by truck, a chassis will be required, and there will be a chassis fee.
Trucks carrying overweight FCL goods will have a tri-axle chassis. A tri-axle chassis is often necessary for a 20' container weighing more than 36,000 lbs. or a 40' container weighing more than 44,000 lbs.
The purpose of the chassis is to tightly fasten the container to the chassis, preventing any unnecessary movement. To properly suit an FCL container, chassis are available in both 20' and 40' container sizes.
